Vellore: Vellore Institute of Technology and France-based automotive supplier Valeo India signed a Memorandum of Understanding recently to establish industry-academia interactions.
According to the MoU, students of VIT University would be exposed to plant production and technology support, joint PhD and M Tech research programmes would be offered to employees of Valeo India.
An important component of the MoU would be the establishment of VIT-Valeo Centre of Excellence at VIT's Vellore campus.
The university will provide the rent free facility to Valeo for setting up a plant model and showcase technology and products to support students.
Automotive research will be the main focus with power train, safety, power electronics and infotainment domains as key development areas at this centre, a press release said.
The joint PhD and M Tech (by research) programmes will be offered for employees of Valeo India with VIT University faculty as research guides.
Students, research scholars and faculty will be able to take part in the research, using state-of-the-art automotive technology equipment sponsored by Valeo.
VIT University founder-Chancellor G Viswanathan, vice-president G V Selvam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor S Narayanan, director (sponsored research) Z C Alex, faculty members Devendranath Ramkumar, K R Prabhu, N Arivazhagan and K Govardhan, Valeo director (GEEDS) Jaji Vijayaraman, human resources head Charumathi and knowledge and innovation manager Pradeep Kumar were present during the signing of the MoU.
