According to a MeT Department official, "A low pressure area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on 19 July. Also, a well-marked low-pressure area is prevailing over north coastal Odisha and neighbourhood and a monsoon trough is passing through Jharkhand and Odisha. In the wake of this, heavy rainfall lashed over south Tamilnadu's ghat areas Monday."
"In the last 24 hours, Chinnakalar recorded a maximum rainfall of 16 cm followed by Valparai PTO and Valparai taluk office which recorded 9 cm each. Devala recorded 6 cm. G Bazaar and Periyar recorded 4 cm each. Naduvattam recorded 3 cm. K bridge, Pollachi, Gudalur and AP Peelamedu recorded 2 cm each," said the official.
In the next 24 hours, heavy rain is likely to occur at some places over the ghat areas of Tirunelveli, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore , Nilgiris and Tirunelveli districts.
"In addition, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to continue at isolated places over Tamilnadu and Puducherry till Friday," he added.
