Three die in Erode as firecrackers in vehicle suddenly burst

Chennai: Two people died on the spot and another person died later, as the firecrackers being transported in a vehicle suddenly burst near Sastri Nagar, in Erode district this morning.

With Deepavali festival drawing close, vendors have started stocking on firecrackers. This morning, the cracker bundles were being downloaded in the residential area in a house.

According to reports, the crackers in the vehicle then burst and killed two people on the spot. One person succumbed to injuries later. Many others are said to have been admitted to hospitals with injuries.

One of the dead has been identified as Karthik of Valayakarar Street.

As the firecrackers burst with intensity, the blast damaged about 10 houses in the vicinity.

Surampatti police are investigating the case.
