Chennai: The Supreme Court today refused to hear as urgent matter a plea filed against Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi.

The court said the case will be heard only after the summer recess.

Sivakumar of Kanyakumari had filed the case against Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi and sought urgent hearing today. But the court refused his prayer.

Sivakumar had also sought to know if the Rs 100 crore, imposed as fine by the Supreme Court on the copper smelter plant, had been used by the Tamilnadu government to tackle environmental problems.

The Sterlite plant has been in the news lately after the protest against the factory turned violent on the 100th day. Thirteen lives were lost when the police opened fire on the agitators.
