Simultaneous polls okay by 2024: AIADMK

Chennai: The idea of holding simultaneous elections has the ruling AIADMK at loggerheads as it is likely to convey its position at a meeting with the Law Commission in New Delhi tomorrow.

The AIADMK will be represented by Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambi Durai, State Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam, P Venugopal, V Maitreyan, A Navaneethakrishnan and all MPs.

Chief Minister and co-coordinator of the party Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister and coordinator, O Panneerselvam are learnt to have written to the Law Commission elucidating the party’s view.

State Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar has said the State Assembly  elections and Lok Sabha elections should not be held together. Declining to comment more on the matter, the Minister said he can speak about it only after hearing the decision of the Election Commission.

Although the ruling party is opposed to the idea of holding simultaneous elections, it's heads have not commented against 2024 polls being held together. According to sources, the party has said the idea is viable for 2024 polls.
