The jailed aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, had sent a lengthy legal notice to her brother Dhivakaran to stop using her name in any way and disowned him last week. She threw her weight behind her nephew Dhinakaran who recently floated the political party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.
Dhivakaran, for his part, said he would no longer call Sasikala his sister nor use her name in any way in his political journey. He said he saw no reason to reply to the notice.
He said all he wanted to ensure was that the good work done by MGR and Jayalalithaa should not go waste. So, he would strive to strengthen those who are strongly supporting Anna, MGR and Puratchi Thalaivi (Jayalalithaa). He hinted at consolidating those who swear by Jayalalithaa's name, including her niece Deepa Jayakumar.
Dhivakaran charged Dhinakaran with driving a wedge between him and his sister Sasikala. He also alleged that Dhinakaran was the one who alienated Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam from Sasikala. The AMMK leader was trying to make him speak against Sasikala and undermine her stature, he said.
Dhivakaran also told the mediapersons that he had saved the life of Jayalalithaa thrice.
