Rana Daggubati attends VIT cultural symposium

Vellore: "VITians are leading not only in academia but also in cultural events. Rivera'18 has witnessed over 29,000 participants which included 4,000 externals with prizes worth Rs 20 lakh awarded. This year also witnessed participation from 29 nations making Riviera a truly global phenomenon. The theme for this year was ‘theatre of dreams’ which means a place where your dreams are realised," said VIT chancellor G Viswanathan.

He said this during the valedictory ceremony of VIT's annual cultual symposium Rivera at the institute's premises on Vellore on Sunday.

The chief guest for this year's programme was Baahubali fame actor Rana Daggubati. Students interacted with him asking to talk in Telugu following which he said his famous dialogue 'jai mahishmathi'.

"Riviera 2018 hosted 128 events in total, including formal and informal events of which about 50 percent were all-new events. The focus this year was on fun events such as RC Racing and Gallympics. Trademark events such as VIT’s Got Talent, which enabled the students to showcase their talents, took place. Events relating to all types of art such as dance, music, drama, photography and cinematography were catered to," said the event's student organiser Eshita Singh.

The overall Sports trophy was bagged by VIT, with Loyola (102 points) coming second.

The overall trophy for cultural was bagged by Sastra University, Tanjore with 183 points and Christ University, Bangalore with 160 points.

Earlier VIT vice president GV Selvam honoured the chief guest with a memento.
