Chennai: Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor P P Chellathurai today announced withdrawing a probe panel formed to look into charges against professor Nirmala Devi, who allegedly lured students towards sex trade.

In a statement, he said based on a report by him, Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, in his capacity as Chancellor of the university, ordered a high-powered inquiry committee by R Santhanam, a retired IAS officer.

"The university is keen that all details with regard to the incident to be inquired into without any bias. Hence, the proposal to form an internal committee in the university has been withdrawn," he said.
