Mishaps happen when people violate rules: HC

Chennai: The Madras High Court today said unfortunate incidents happen when people disobey laws.

The Court was commenting on the death of Usha, a pregnant woman who died suffering serious head injuries after her vehicle was allegedly attacked by an Inspector and about Vicky, a class eight student who fell off a bus.

The Court said when police personnel are doing their duty, sometimes mistakes happen. It went on to say that while people disobey laws, unfortunate incidents happen.

Meanwhile, the funeral of Usha took place at Sundar Nagar, at Tiruchi K K Nagar, saw many turning up.

BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan paid last respects to the deceased and said the State government must work towards improving relationship between the public and the police. Usha’s last journey left from her house amid tight police security.

On Wednesday evening, 34-year-old Usha was travelling with her husband, when they were chased by traffic police inspector Kamaraj.

The police officer reportedly kicked the motorcycle the couple were travelling in, leading to the couple falling down and sustaining grievious injuries. Usha died on the spot while Kamaraj fled the place.

A huge mob gathered at the spot protesting the police action. Kamaraj was subsequently arrested and suspended. On Thursday, the HC condemned the incident.

Meanwhile today, Kamaraj was hospitalised. It is said he sustained injuries during the incident on Wednesday.
