Chennai: Immediately after fire broke out in Kurangani hills of Theni district, one person who got down to business the very next moment was Defence Minister from Tamilnadu, Nirmala Sitharaman.

Right from last evening she has been actively involved in the rescue mission of those trapped in the fire.

After news emerged that trekkers were caught in a forest fire, she deployed the Indian Air Force on the mission. Following her instructions, the department's southern command contacted Theni Collector for rescue efforts and sent helicopters from Suluru.

At around 7 pm yesterday, Nirmala directly contacted the Collector and assured of all possible help from her side.

Later, she also sent 10 commandos to the spot through Madurai airport.

Finally, contacting the owner of a nearby tea estate, she also made sure that all those who were rescued got adequate rest before treatment. Also, she actively updated the rescue efforts on Twitter, to allay fears and anxiety.
