Kanchi mutt head Jayendra Saraswati passes away

Chennai: Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam head Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal passed away this morning. He was 82 and had been suffering from health complications.

According to reports, the Sankaracharya suffered from breathlessness and was admitted to a hospital this morning where he passed away.

The swamigal was initiated into sanyasa by Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the previous head of the mutt, in 1954. He will be succeeded by his present successor, Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal as the head of the Kanchi mutt.
