NagapattinamĀ (Tamilnadu): Tourists visiting the historic Tarangambadi town, near here, can soon go on a fully-guided heritage walk around it.

'Heritage and Culture Club', a voluntary organisation for heritage conservation, tourism promotion and cultural exchange at Tarangambadi, has made arrangements for the guided tour.

"We will soon train volunteers and local youth in offering the guided tour. We hope to start the heritage walk tours on a regular basis soon," club convener Jasmine Eppert said.

Customised walks for senior citizens, families and children, nature freaks and history-lovers have been planned, she added.

Tarangambadi, which remained under Danish rule between 1620 AD and 1845 AD, has numerous monuments and varied heritage, and attracts a large number of tourists each day.

Eppert, who is also curator of Ziegenbalg Museum on Intercultural Dialogue, Tarangambadi, said the town was unique in several aspects, possessing a diverse heritage. "The town has a beautiful, clean beach, which is regarded as ozone-rich beach due to the high dose of ozone content in the breeze," she added. The monuments include, among others, the 13th century Masillanathar temple, 17th century Dansborg fort and Danish governor bungalow.
