Plus-1 results: Erode district tops with 97.3% pass

Chennai: The Tamilnadu Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) today released the Plus-One public exam results, where the pass percentage stood at 91.3 per cent.

Over 8. 47 lakh students appeared for the first public exam being conducted from this year for Plus-One. The exams were held from 7 March to 13 April.

The results were published at 9 am, and girls outdid boys by recording 94.6 per cent pass, while 87.4 per cent boys cleared the exams, according to a press release from the DGE.

The exam was conducted for matriculation schools, government and government-aided schools, State board syllabus and Anglo-Indian syllabus schools.

Of the 7,070 schools, 2,054 institutions recorded 100 per cent pass percentage. When it came to government schools, 188 of 2,724 got cent per cent result. The  government schools had a pass percentage of 83.9 per cent.

The duration of the exam was two-and-a-half hours and the question papers were for 600 marks. A total of  30,380 students scored above 500 marks, while 64,817 scored between 451-500 marks and 1,60,581 students scored between 351-400 marks.

Among the 32 districts in State, Erode leads with highest pass percentage, followed by Tirupur and Coimbatore. Villupuram had the least pass percentage.

Last year, noting that schools were conveniently skipping the class 11 syllabus to focus on centums for class 12, the State government said class 11 students will have to write a public exam.

This was introduced to allow students to have a good foundation and do well in higher education. Students who failed in one or more subjects can proceed to class 12 and still write the paper, treating it like arrears.


Out of 62 jail birds who appeared for the exam, 45 cleared it. This time, 2,450 differently-abled candidates also passed the exams.
