Addressing media persons after laying the foundation stone for former Chief Ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa in Salem, the Chief Minister said, "We have forwarded the resolution passed to set up Cauvery Board at the earliest to the Prime Minister. But we have not received any reply."
He said people of Tamilnadu are hoping that Central government will do the needful to redress the grievances of delta farmers in the State.
Edappadi K Palaniswami is touring Salem, Erode and Thanjavur districts. Yesterday, he addressed a gathering organised by the AIADMK to stress the need for early constitution of Cauvery Management Board.
It may be recalled that the Centre a couple of days ago approached the Supreme Court seeking two more weeks to form the board.
The delay in the formation of the board is alleged to be a strategy by the central government taking into account the Karnataka polls.
"The BJP in a way of insulting the Supreme Court and like cheating the people of Tamilnadu has asked for two more weeks for formation of Cauvery water management board. This is condemnable. Very soon the BJP will realise that the farmers and people of Tamilnadu are not fools," tweeted DMK working president MK Stalin.
AIADMK Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar too had said the delay was condemnable, unfortunate and that it will not be allowed by the State government.
