Coimbatore: The need to protect data of the voters and importance of being computer literate was stressed at a cyber security convened by Election Commission for its officers and staff from southern States.

Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena chaired the meeting in which around 150 officials, including electoral officers from Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadeep and Puducherry took part, official sources said.

Emphasising the need to protect the data of voters, Saxena said all the officials should possess the knowledge of computer and internet, since the entire work of Election Commission was computerised and handled through internet, on par with all other major departments.

The officials were imparted training in handling cyber security by experts.
