CM inaugurates medical college at Pudukottai

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today declared open the new Government Medical College and Hospital in Pudukottai.

The college and hospital buildings have been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 229.46 crore on 127 acres at Mullur village on the Pudukottai-Thanjavur Highway. The college would start functioning this year with an intake of 150 students in the MBBS programme for which the Medical Council of India has already granted permission. Work on construction of buildings has been completed within a record time of about one year.

The Chief Minister was given a warm reception when he reached Pudukottai and banners were kept at various places across the city to welcome him.

Among those who were present on the occasion was State Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, State Ministers and AIADMK MLAs. Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, Health secretary J Radhakrishnan and Pudukottai Collector S Ganesh participated.

Earlier, three DMK MLAs Periannan Arasu, Raghupathy and Meiyanathan, who came to the venue when the function was on, were detained by the police, say reports.
