Tamil Thalaivas set to spread kabaddi across state

Chennai: Pro Kabaddi league franchise Tamil Thalaivas is keen to spread the local sport kabaddi across the State with its year-round initiatives like the corporate kabaddi fest and children's kabaddi challenge.

The children's kabaddi challenge will run through from August to September and is aimed at reaching out to 1 lakh students across 8 cities, including Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Thiruvallur, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli and Pondicherry.

Each city will have 12 girls and 12 boys team battling it out in the knockout format. The top 30 teams will reach the next round that will be held in Chennai.

The corporate Kabaddi fest will be held at the Express Avenue mall from 17 - 19 August and will see the participation of 32 corporate teams comprising individual women and men teams.

"Our intention right from the start was to reach out to different demographics and community within the state and since Kabaddi is so accessible, we decided to start leagues like this to develop people's interest in the sport," said Tamil Thalaivas' CEO Viren D' Silva.

He also said that Tamil Thalaivas aim to make as many women to participate in the leagues. "In the school league, we have equal number of boys and girls team, and in the corporate league too we wanted equal number of men and women team, and I am surprised that a lot of women have come forward to register and now we nearly have equal number of men's and women's team for the corporate fest as well," he added.

Tamil Thalaivas will also provide professional level training to registered corporate teams in the two weeks preceding the event.

Also present on the occasion were actors Vishnu Vishal and Andrea Jeremiah, who have been appointed as 'Chief Motivating officers' to promote the league, and Tamil Thalaivas players from Tamilnadu K Jayaseelan and D Gopu, who unveiled the trophies for both the school and corporate leagues.
