Tokyo: PV Sindhu lost in straight games to Nozomi Okuhara in the second round of women’s singles at the $325,000 Japan Open Superseries badminton in Tokyo today. This was their ninth career meeting and now Nozomi leads 5-4.

This PV Sindhu vs Nozomi Okuhara, unfortunately didn’t not live up to its expectations. The fi rst game was a hard-fought match, but Sindhu just couldn’t fi nd any way to negate Okuhara’s strategy in the second game. Okuhara seemed very calm and collective while going through her process, but Sindhu kept making unforced errors.

There was no looking back for Okuhara, once she took a 10-4 lead in the second game. She kept flighting her serves and Sindhu kept finding the net in most of the rallies. Saina Nehwal will play at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium later in the day.

While Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy won to enter the men’s singles quarterfinals, Sameer Verma lost his men’s singles second round.
