Chennai: Chepauk stadium, Chennai Super Kings players walking in yellow, whistlepodu theme song in the background -- these elements are enough to put a broad smile on any Chennaiite’s face.

The TNPL 2 opening ceremony managed to do exactly that, with CSK greats gracing the occasion at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

MS Dhoni, Matthew Hayden, L Balaji, Subramanium Badrinath, Anirudha Srikkanth, Mohit Sharma, Pawan Negi and C Ganapathy, all clad in yellow, went around the stadium greeting fans, who had come just to see their local team and experience some major nostalgia.

When the city’s favourite adopted son Dhoni entered the stadium with the yellow jersey on with ‘Thala’ written on the back, the crowd erupted with joy. "Vanakkam Chennai," he said and the crowd went mad with joy!

After all they got to see their hero in yellow after such a long time! Dhoni echoed the crowd’s thoughts, "The wait is finally over!," he said. Dhoni also said,"It is good to be here and the crowd has always given me unconditional support and love. I feel at home here and yellow has been my color since 2008, apart from of course blue and we have done pretty well in the yellow jersey. The crowd has stayed loyal to us no matter what and I love that about them!"

Matthew Hayden, looking stylish in the yellow jersey and ‘veshti’, said it felt magical to wear the yellow jersey again. "Chennai is a great wicket to bat on and also assists a good bowler. Great memories  here!"

Mohit Sharma picked the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, where Albie Morkel went berserk in one over

against Virat Kohli, as his best memory of CSK. "It is a special feeling to return to Chennai, especially after such a long time!"

"Brilliant feeling to be here wearing the yellow jersey, I have played six years for CSK and it is great to see such massive crowd. CSK is back and roaring, it is a great atmosphere here!," CSK’s umbrella man Badrinath said. L Balaji, who performed a hat-trick for CSK said, "It is a good wait for the crowd and they deserve this! CSK is back, which feels great!,"

The super sixes contest was between MS Dhoni’s team which consisted of Negi, Balaji (1 six) and Ganapathy against Hayden’s team with Anirudha(1), Mohit and Badrinath (2). Though Hayden’s team got past Dhoni’s team with an extra six, Dhoni’s three huge sixes and Hayden’s two sixes, in veshti, especially won the hearts of the people who had come just to see the men in yellow.
