Chennai: Already out of the title race, there seems to be no end to the woes of defending champion Chennai City FC as it was held 1-1 by Arrows FC in the CFA Senior Division League at the Nehru Stadium here.

In the second match of the evening, Chennai Customs RC played out a lacklustre goalless draw with Income Tax. Chennai City drifted apart from the top of the table long ago but its attempt to finish higher up the table took a beating when it dropped two points against a resilient Arrows team. The first-half was bereft of any excitement with neither of the teams managing to create any chances. Playing under the scorching sun also had an adverse bearing on the players as they wilted under the oppressive heat.

Things changed, as they normally would, when a goal is scored after a tepid first-half when Chennai City’s Romario broked the shackles by putting his team ahead in the 53rd minute. The joy of scoring the goal evaporated under the searing heat for City as Arrows’ Emmanuel Chiokku cancelled out the goal with an equaliser in the 61st minute.

Apart from scoring that crucial goal, Chiokku was also a constant menace for the City defence and he was deservedly adjudged the man of the match award.

The match that followed between Chennai Customs and Income Tax was a drab affair with the match ending goalless. Both the teams never looked capable of scoring as the match was marked by sloppy finishing and misfiring passes.

As the match progressed, it looked increasingly likely that the teams were content to settle for a point as the league has reached the home stretch.

Results: Chennai City FC 1 (Romario 53) drew with Arrows FC 1 (Emmanuel Chiokku 61); Chennai Customs RC 0 drew with Income Tax RC 0
