128 players picked up by teams in TNPL player draft

Chennai: Defending Champions Chepauk Super Gillies snapped up India all-rounder Vijay Shankar at the player draft for the third edition of Tamilnadu Premier League (TNPL) held in Chennai on Thursday.

Dinesh Karthik was picked by Kaaraikudi Kaalai while Tuti Patriots bought back Washington Sundar. Both these players feature in the India limited overs squad which is to tour England. They are expected to miss the first week of action in TNPL-3 which will start on July 11.

"TNPL is getting bigger and better and live broadcast has played a big role in the growth of the tournament and is providing global exposure to young talents. All credit to the TNCA," said Washington Sundar.

Rajagopal Sathish, who captained Super Gillies to victory last year went to Tuti Patriots while India openers Murali Vijay and Abhinav

Mukund were picked up by Ruby Trichi Warriors and Lyca Kovai Kings respectively. Ravichandran Ashwin was retained by Dindigul Dragons and has been appointed as its captain.

Both Ashwin and Vijay features in the Test squad against England and both are expected to leave for national duty in the middle of the league.

Owner of Dindigul Dragons, HR Srinivasan said,"It was an advantage to have Ashwin at the player draft to select the best possible combination. Ashwin will be participating in the oinitial matches and is expected to leave for national duty. N.Jagadeesan (also retained) will lead Dragons in Ashwin's absence."

Ahead of the auction, each of the eight teams were allowed to retain three players. 772 players entered the auction fray and 128 players were picked by eight teams in the auction.
