If you found yourself spending a lot of time on social media, do not feel bad. You are not alone as of the world's population is spending their spare moments to share their view, tweet their experience and scroll through their news feeds, a report says.

As of now, there are over 3 billion people logged on to social media accounts around the world which eventually means that almost half of the world's population spends at least a part of their day updating their status or story.

Earth's population is estimated to be 7.524 billion and the report by Hootsuite and We Are Social, published by The Next Web, found that there are 3.028 billion active users around the world.

It states that 40 per cent of the global population is using social media and the rest small portion of the estimated 3.819 billion don't have social media profile.

Mobile users make up a large base, with 2.780 billion being active users. This report further adds that this number will keep growing.

From April 2017, there has been a 4 per cent growth in total global users - that is about a million new users a day.

WHO RULES?

Facebook is the king of social media platforms, with 2.047 billion monthly active users (MAU), while its other properties, WhatsApp and Messenger, are in third and fourth positions.

Instagram followed closely behind with roughly 700 million MAU.

So, the next time you find yourself wasting time on Facebook or Twitter, I repeat, you are not alone!
