'O' is officially Oreo for Android 8.0

So, here it is, Oreo! Google launched its next major release for Android 8.0 and the name was revealed earlier today after the live stream of solar eclipse.

Names such as Orange, Ozark Pudding and Olibol was rumoured to take after O. Adding to that this is not the first time that Android has partnered a company for its name. Remember KitKat? It was the name given to Android 4.4.

What is new?

The most important change that Oreo is said to bring is number of behind-the-scenes changes like background limits for apps to improve battery life, Bluetooth audio improvements, Google Play Protect to help on the security front.

The new OS will also bring faster boot speeds, better Autofill implementation. More additions such as adaptive notification dots, wider support for picture-in-picture mode, 60 new emojis, a new look for media notifications and quick settings menu, a redesigned settings menu and adaptive icons.

Android Oreo is said to be the most secure one. With Google Play Protect built in, users are set to get more secured phone and tighter app installs controls.

When will your phone get Oreo?

Google says Android 8.0 will begin rolling out to all current Pixel and Nexus devices sometime soon and if you happen to be enrolled in the Android Beta Programme, your device will automatically be updated to the stable release. Google also said it is working closely with their partner, so everybody can expect Oreo by 2017.
