Chennai: After launching its track focused version of the 911, the GT3 RS, Porsche has announced the launch of its halo 911, the GT2 RS in the country. The car is priced at Rs 3.88 crore (Ex-Showroom).

Aimed at the track, the GT2 RS, in its second generation incidentally, has a 3.8 litre flat-six turbo engine that puts out 700 ps and 750 Nm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission.

With the engine hanging behind the rear wheels, providing extra grip, the car does the 0-100 km run is 2.7 seconds before going on to top out at 211 mph. It is the fastest rear-wheel driven car to lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife at 6:47.3 also taking honours as the fastest production car around the 'ring'.

That time is 31 seconds quicker than the previous 997-generation GT2 RS and 10 seconds inside the time set by the 918 Spyder, a previous record holder.

As with a track focused 911, the GT2 RS has some obsessive trimming of mass, extending so far as to include both lightweight carpets and extra-thin glass closely related to that used in cellphone screens. The optional weight-trimming Weissach package shaves 40 pounds at the cost of an extra $31,000, with Porsche claiming a curb weight of just 1,473 kgs, although that means forgoing both the infotainment system and air conditioning.
