Lorry owners are likely to temporarily call off strike after meeting with their peers today in the national capital, sources said.

The strike which has been on-going for a week was initiated with demands, including bringing automotive fuel prices under GST.

The All India Motor Transport Congress had on 20 July gone on strike pressing for reduction in fuel prices. More than 90 lakh lorries nation wide, which include 4.5 lakh lorries in the State, did not run.

Losses due to the strike are mounting, with State agencies reporting Rs 15,000 crore worth of losses in the seven days that trucks did not run.

It is reported that more than 1.5 crore people associated with the industry are badly hit, while prices of essentials have started shooting upwards sighting the strike.

In order to cap this, lorry owners and members of All India Motor transport Corportation are to meet today in Delhi and are expected to call off the strike temporarily.
