Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has claimed the incident of a passport official allegedly humiliating an inter-faith couple in Lucknow is part of a disease that has crept into society and blamed the BJP for the situation.

"So, this is a disease which has been spread and I blame the BJP and its sister organisations for this," he told reporters here yesterday.

The incident was not a symptom but "a disease that has crept" into society with the BJP at the helm, the Hyderabad MP alleged.

"Most unfortunate and misfortune is that even government officials whose duty is to check whether a person is an Indian citizen or not, his residence (proof) is proper or not before issuing a passport, he has the guts and stupidity to say and question a person," he said.

BJP talks about 'saaf niyat' (clear intentions) but in reality such incidents were happening, he charged.

"Now, even to make a passport one is being questioned. So, every sphere of life has been poisoned. This is the most unfortunate part and the BJP is thoroughly exposed. Because, they talk about 'saaf niyat'. If their 'niyat' was 'saaf' or clear then these incidents would not have happened," he said.

A passport seva kendra official in Lucknow was transferred yesterday after he allegedly humiliated an inter-faith couple, asking the husband to convert to Hinduism and pulling up the wife for marrying a Muslim, when they went to the office with their passport applications.
