Dancers come together for panel discussion

A panel discussion on ‘Winning Audiences’ by Hema Rajgopalan, Gopika Varma and Rama Vaidyanathan was organised as part of Natya Darshan by danseuse Krithika Subramanian & Kartik Fine Arts, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

They spoke on different approaches towards winning audiences in this competitive, fastpaced world and the constantly changing culture.This was followed by ‘Pecha Kucha’, creating concepts by Shanta Ratii, actress Suhasini Maniratnam and Nalina Gopal. They spoke about what to keep in mind while creating concepts and how important it is to be able to bring the ideas to reality.

The last session for the forenoon was ‘Revive’ – Ccncept perform- ance that showcased thematic performances based on poemsPriya Murle, Bharadwaj  Sundar and Yohan Chacko performed along with their team.

The evening witnessed performances by Usha RK and her students on the theme  Divya Vahana – vehicles of God, solo performance by actress RukminiVijaykumar on ‘Weaving creativity within tradition’ and ‘Agathi’ – the plight of a refugee by Apsaras Arts Dance Company.

Natya Darshan was an initiative started in 2001 to broaden the discourse around dance in India and beyond. It is an annual dance seminar Kartik FineArts holds during the December music and dance festival every year.

Krithika Subrahmanian is the convenor of Natya Darshan 2017. Trained in the pure lineage of the Tanjavur Bani of Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of SudharaniRaghupathy since the age of seven, Krithika has performed at prominent venues and festivals, solo and group. She continues to produce and perform rare traditional Margams and the widely acclaimed works of her choreography such as NaMaargam, Sri, Shringaram, Antaram, Swappnam, Black Box, Jagriti and Treasure of Tanjavur.

A renowned architect and designer, Krithika Subrahmanian, is a reputed entrepreneur heading a group of successful companies. She says, “The objective of Natya Darshan is to emphasise that Life is in the Now, Living is in the Now and Breathing is in the Now & Performance is in the Now”.

“Our aim is to encourage the artists to learn and choose wisely for the future is NOW in the making wherein a concept can be interpreted in literal and symbolic ways.”
