Chennai: Tamilnadu opener made a cautious start against Odisha in the day one of their Ranji encounter. The viusitors made 102 for the loss of one wicket after lunch and with batsmen like Indrajith and Aparajith to come, the team is looking good to score a big one in the fixture.
After winning the toss, skipper Abhinav Mukund decided to bat first. But in a little over 11 overs, Mukund got out in a mix-up between the wickets. Mukund scored just 12 runs and had consumed 33 balls with two boundaries in the mix. Dhiraj Singh was the wrecker-in-chief on the occassion.
Surprisingly, M Vijay was joined by wicket keeper Jagadeesan for the next partnership. The move more than favoured the visitors as Jagadeesan took the attack to the bowlers from the moment he stepped into the crease. Him and Murali Vijay made sure that no more wickets fell while runs flowed in effortlessly. At drinks, Tamilnadu were at 40 for the loss of one wicket. Vijay, in his usual way scored at a strike rate of 37.4 while Jagadeesan was scoring at a rate that was more than 74.
At lunch, Vijay scored 34 runs with three boundaries to his name while eating up 91 balls and N Jagadeesan scored 55 runs off 74 deliveries that included nine fours and a six.
Odisha who are at the bottom of the group with just two points to their name, could not contain the runs and their bowlers failed to capitalise on the breakthrough providedd by their fielder. Odisha bowlers went wicketless after having bowled 33 overs, giving away 102 runs that included one extra.
In other matches, Andhra was at 100 for one vs Tripura, Vidarbha at 112 for no loss against Bengal, J&K at 131 for the loss of three wickets against Jharkhand, Himachal was at 125 for the loss of six wickets against Chhattisgarh, Mumbai were at 103 for five against Baroda and Service were at 91 for three against Goa.
