Chennai: He waited for four years to fullfil his parents’ wish and at the same time launch into his passion which is cinematography.
V Gautham, a resident of K K Nagar, in the city has shot three short films and one of them –Oru Kannil Thoongidu– has been released on YouTube.
Currently pursuing a cinematography course at Mind Screen Film Institute at Mylapore, in the city, the 22-year-old had love for photography from his childhood days.
“I used to travel a lot with my parents and used to take photographs. When I completed Plus-Two in Thanjavur, I wanted to take up Visual Communications. But my parents insisted that I study engineering course and later take up cinematography. Accordingly, I completed engineering in IT major at Rajalakshmi Engineering College with 69 per cent pass percentage.”
While studying third year, Gautham took up training in digital photography, which helped him know the nuances of the profession. After completing his studies, he got into wedding and travel photography. Later, he decided to focus more on his passion and shot three short films.
The film Oru Kannil Thoongidu is a scientific fiction and the scenes were shot in K K Nagar, Ashok Nagar and MGR Market. His second one is a Chettinad-style wedding album and third is on a social cause regarding plastic waste.
Gautham has so far watched over 500 films in various languages and likes director Karthik Subbaraj’s work the most.
Asked about his plans, the youngster said he was now planning to shoot a web series. “It will be a murder mystery and this will boost my profile – cinematographer or director – in the coming days.”
Gautham’s father M Venkatesh works as a radio officer in a private ship in Dubai and mother Usha Venkatesh is a housewife. His sister Niveditha studies MBA at PSG College, Coimbatore.
