Chennai: It was a busy day at the Secretariat for Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday as he inaugurated several buildings, schemes and programmes.
With dengue reaching epideic proportions in Tamilnadu, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and other ministers in the State in a discussion panel to oversee the State’s action against the fever.
Through videoconferencing, the Chief Minister later inaugurated classrooms, research centres, libraries and other buildings in schools from several districts across the State.
The total cost of the buildings which were built by the School Education Department comes up to Rs 171.55 crore. He also inaugurated school buildings in the Yerwadi Governemnt Girls Higher Secondary School constructed with the help of NABARD funds of Rs 2.29 crore.
Then he awarded the collectors of Theni (K S Pazhaniswami and N Venkatachalam), Dharmapuri (K Vivekanandhan), Coimbatore (Archana Patnaik), Erode (S Prabhakar), Karur (S Jayanthi), Nilagiri (P Shankar), Namakkal (M Aasiya Mariyam) and Tiruvannamalai (A Nyana Sekaran) with Green Awards for their efforts in environmental conservation for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The Chief Minister also presented Green Awards to industry bodies like The Ramco Cements, Michelin India Pvt Ltd, Hyundai Motors among others who had excelled in environmental protection.
