Indira Banerjee, new Chief Justice of Madras HC

Chennai: Delhi High Court Judge Indira Banerjee J has been appointed as the 28th Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Indira Banerjee enrolled at the Bar Council of India in 1985 and started her practice in Calcutta High Court. She was appointed judge of Calcutta High Court in 2002 and was transferred to Delhi High Court in August 2016.

ndira Banerjee’s appointment comes following the elevation of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who will now be as Supreme Court judge.

Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh, the second senior most judge of the Madras High Court took charge as the Acting Chief Justice on 17 February, after Sanjay Kishan Kaul was promoted to the apex court on 15 February.
