Chennai: Thambi Ramiah, the National Award-winning actor, is directing his son Umapathy Ramaiah for a movie titled Maniyar Kudumbam.

He is also making his debut as a composer with the film. On his venture as music composer, "My native is in Pudukottai district. In our village, we have an annual thiruvizha that is held for 10 days. They will hold music events and I grew up listening to that music. And then there were the MGR songs. I used to set write my own lyrics for the tunes of that year’s biggest hit songs."

On directing his son, he says, "I always ask my artistes to rehearse the scene. My son used to grasp what I wanted and deliver. Having been part of a dance troupe, he doesn’t have stage fear; he isn’t camera shy either. And I’m a friendly father at home, so it was not difficult on the set. I ensured there was a positive vibe on the set."
