When many top heroines in the industry are waiting to work with Rajinikanth, I still find it hard to believe how Pa Ranjith chose someone like me, who was nowhere in the scene for over a decade, to be Rajinikanth’s on-screen pair," says Easwari Rao.

Her debut was Kavithai Paadum Alaigal in 1990, which never got to see the light. She got her first major break in Raman Abdullah (1997), directed by Balu Mahendra. After which offers poured in for her. She went on to appear in Manoj Kumar’s Guru Paarvai (1998) alongside Prakash Raj, Kushboo and Anju Aravind.

She says, "I got a call from Ranjith’s office for audition. I did not know that it was for Kaala. Dhanush called me and informed that I would be Rajini sir’s pair in Ranjith’s film. It was one exciting moment that I will cherish for life," says Eashwari Rao.

She adds, "Kaala is an important film in my life. My character is interesting. Most of my portions were shot at Dharavi and Ranjith asked me not to apply any make-up for the role. However, I will be seen wearing a lot of gold ornaments in the film."
