Speaking to News Today, the Premam actress says, "Vijay Sethupathi is one such person who inspires me because I have seen his work in person."
Excerpts from her interview:
Q: Can you walk us through how you select your movies?
A: The director is most important to me. The script is secondary. I'm not sure if I should let my secret out (laughs). So when the director narrates the story to me, I look out for key points. Has the director worked on this character? Is the character important? Has he given soul to it? I also look for the filmmaker's way of narrating the story to me. If I feel the story is right, then I get to act on it.
Q: Can you tell us about the actors who inspire you?
A: Vijay Sethupathi is one such person who inspires me because I have seen his work in person. I also take in little, little from everybody. So when I see a movie, I take the best parts of it and try to learn from it. In that way, I learn easily. I see the best in everyone and try to mimic their performance.
Q: Tell us about your passion for singing?
A: Singing has always been a part of my blood for as long as I remember. I have been singing since I was six. That's what helped me to get into the industry. When I get to sing for movies, I first try to understand the meaning of the song. There are many singers I admire. I grew up listening to Celine Dion when I was young. Now I like Bruno Mars.
Q: Of all the performances you have done till date, which movie made you to give in a lot of effort?
A: It took a long time to shoot Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum because my character had a big role in it. I think I put in a lot of effort to that movie.
Q: You have worked in multiple languages. Do you find it difficult to perform?
A: Not much, but the only thing is that it takes time for me to learn my lines. Only if I learn them two or three days before, I manage to deliver my performance well. I like to be prepared always.
Q: How has your life changed after Premam?
A: A lot has changed. I have been very choosy of the films I get to act. My career is actually very slow. Also my family is very important to me. I have a younger sister and I do my best to spend as much time with her as possible. If you show your face on screen too much, I think people will get bored of you. I think slow and steady is better.
