Devi Sri Prasad aka DSP is the sought-after composer in Telugu and Tamil cinema.

Known for his peppy and foot-tapping numbers, he has worked with almost all top stars. He is continuing his success streak in 2018 thanks to hits in Rangasthalam and Bharat Ane Nenu.

DSP's BGM for the motion poster of Vikram'’s  Saamy Square has won him appreciation from many.

Says the music composer, "The teaser of a movie should have catchy music. For Saamy 2 I tried an unique mix of Gayathri Mantra and symphonic orchestral music. It has gone down well with music-lovers."

Excerpts from his interview

Q: How was it to come up with rural theme for Rangasthalam?

A: The story demanded it. I took it as a challenge. Director Sukumar had immense faith in me. I composed all the tunes for the movie in just four days. I sincerely feel it is my style of music now.

Q: What is special in Saamy Square?

A: From trailer to the movie, everything is special in the film. We tried a fusion between Gayathri mantra and symphonic orchestral music. There is a right mix of peppy and soft romantic songs in the film. Due credit should go to lyricist Viveka. His lines add more value to the songs.

Q: How difficult it is to work in different languages?

A: I feel one should know the language in which one composes music. Only when you know to read and write, you can come up with a catchy lyric for the lines.

Q: You started the title theme music trend in Tamil cinema?

A: I started it with Sachien. The music became a hit. Soon it became a trend everywhere. It helps to make sure that the title of the movie reaches the audience fast. Theme music are a must these days.

Q: When are you making your acting foray?

A: I was asked by several producers and filmmakers to act in their films. Even many directors from Kollywood urged me to play lead roles. Sukumar asked me initially to act as hero in Rangasthalam. But I could not take it as my father passed away then. But I will certainly act soon.
