The much-awaited trailer of Mani Ratnam's ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ is out.

And call it a surprise, Mani Ratnam has opted to go for all-out action, gang war and intriguing cop story as sub-plot, as the trailer suggests.

Ever since the project was announced with a multi-starrer (Aravind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Simbu, Jyothika, Aishwarya Rajesh and Aditi Hyadri), expectations were that it would be a candyfloss love story. However it ends up otherwise. The 2 minute 47 second trailer is loaded with gun fire, punchlines and sibling war too.

It opens with Prakashraj being introduced as an influential mafia (Senapathi) and for him, is family is important.

Aravind Swami as Varadan is his elder son, who takes care of his shady dealings.

“My brothers are educated and will not venture into anything untoward,” Varadan says in the trailer.

Arun Vijay however has other plans. Simbu plays the youngest son, who feels neglected by the family. And enters Vijay Sethupathi as a cop (Rasool) who goes on the kill.

Interestingly Aishwarya Rajesh plays a Sri Lankan girl. Aditi Rao Hydari is a journalist and Jyotika plays Varadan’s wife.

A typical Mani Ratnam film, ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ seems to have minimal dialogues. But there is abundant action. Remember his movies on underworld ‘Thalapathy’ and ‘Nayagan’ in the past set a new trend.

Mani Ratnam may be called as 'king of romance' for a majority of his films were set around love. However equally talked about were his action flicks.

Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ is sure to provide adrenaline-rush for fans. Music is by AR Rahman, cinematography by Santosh Sivan and editing by Srikar Prasad and the movie is bankrolled by Lyca International. It will hit the screens 28 September.
