Venkaiah visits Karunanidhi at hospital, enquires about his health condition

Chennai: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu today visited Kauveri Hospital here and enquired about the health of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi. He visited the ICU ward in which the veteran leader is admitted and saw him.

Later he met party's working president MK Stalin and held discussions wit him. Earlier in the day leaders of various political parties including BJP, Communist and MDMK visited the hospital.

Meanwhile sources in the hospital said, "The 94-year-old leader is breathing naturally without ventilator support. His BP is normal, but he is being administered drugs for infections." They added he would be kept under observation for at least another 48 hours.

The 94-year-old DMK Patriarch, who underwent a procedure to change his tracheostomy tube last week, was suffering from fever and urinary tract

infection for the last couple of days and was being treated round-the-clock by a team of doctors and nursing personnel at his Goplapauram residence.

The nonagenarian leader was shifted to the hospital and admitted at the ICU in the wee hours of Saturday after his condition deteriorated following

a dip in his blood pressure levels.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Defence Minister and BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister

Ghulam Nabi Azad, accompanied by Congress Tamilnadu in-charge Mukul Wasnik and leaders of various political parties, Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammad Abdul Ali, Madurai Adheenam among others visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of Karunanidhi since yesterday.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters at Salem, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said, if requested, the State Government was ready to

provide medical assistance to the ailing leader.

Family members, including Karunanidhi's son MK Alagiri, daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and senior DMK leaders, have been shuttling between their houses and the hospital since Saturday morning.
