Chennai: Rashtrapathi Bhavan has confirmed that President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Chennai on 5 August to enquire the health condition of ailing DMK supremo M Karunanidhi.

Earlier, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu visited Chennai and paid a visit to Karunanidhi. Former Prime Minister Deva Gowda is also expected to visit Karunanidhi later today at the Kauvery hospital.

The DMK chief has been undergoing treatment at the Alwarpet hospital for seven days after his BP went low due to complexities developed after urinary tract infection.

However, in a dramatic development, doctors at the Kauvery Hospital made him rest on a chair for 30 minutes on Thursday much to the joy of DMK supporters.

Karunanidhi's son and DMK working president Stalin too has said that his father is stable and doctors are monitoring his conditions at the hospital. It is expected that the 94-year old politician will return home in a few days.
