‘Obesity will affect functioning of kidney’

Chennai: Obesity has dramatically increased all over the world due to lifestyle changes and it results in increased workload to the kidney and worsening of protein loss, said Sapiens Health Foundation founder Dr Rajan Ravichandran.

Participating at a function to mark World Kidney Day 2017 here on Wednesday, he highlighted the activities of the foundation and explained to the audience the relationship between obesity and kidney function. The theme for this year World Kidney Day is ‘Kidney Disease and Obesity. Healthy lifestyle for Healthy Kidneys.’

Culinary expert Mallika Badrinath spoke about various foods preparations that can help to avoid obesity and lead to healthy life. Actor Jiiva distributed medals to three patients who are bravely fighting kidney diseases. He emphasised the importance of regular exercise. Actor Crazy Mohan enlivened the atmosphere through his characteristic humour laced talk.
