MOP Vaishnav College team win quiz contest

Chennai: The MOP Vaishnav College for Women team won the Stars & Stripes Challenge quiz competition organised by the US Consulate General at the Women's Christian College here on Tuesday.

The winning team members were Paarvate Venugopal and Malavika Mahesh. Coming in second in the three-round competition were Keerthana and Yakshita from Stella Maris College for Women, and Janani and Medaja from Women's Christian College finished third, a press release said.

Around 35 colleges participated in the quiz competition. The quiz tested the students' knowledge of the United States across fields of thought on education, science, culture, politics, US-India relations, and sports.

US Consulate General Chennai's Cultural Affairs Officer, Moulik D Berkana said,”I was impressed with how much the students knew about the United States. The US-India relationship has developed on the foundation of people-to-people ties and shared values. Students play an important role in shaping the future.”

He acknowledged that more than 1.86 lakh Indian students pursued their higher education in the United States during the 2017-2018 academic school year.

Moulik D Berkana and Womens Christian College principal Lilian Jasper presented the trophies to the top three winning teams.

An EducationUSA advisor made a presentation about studying in the United States and invited students to take advantage of the resources available at the American Centre concerning higher education opportunities in the United States.
