Chennai: The Madras High Court has suggested that  it would be right for CBI to probe the police firing in Thoothukudi.

Hearing a petition seeking a high-level investigation into the police firing at Thoothukudi during the anti-Sterlite protest, the first bench, led by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, observed that it would be right for the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the issue.

The petitioner had sought a detailed probe with the help of forensic experts.

The court has sent a notice to the Tamilnadu government on its suggestion for a CBI probe, returnable in a week.
