Chennai: Passengers of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) had a lucky escape this morning after a big cement block was detected on the track between Perungudi and Taramani.

The police are looking at it as an attempt at sabotage.

Last Friday, 31 August, at 7 pm, a similar incident was reported on the Velacheri-Beach route of the MRTS.

The driver of the train heard a loud noise while passing between Velacheri and Perungudi stations. He stopped the train midway and got down to check what the problem was.

The driver found some broken cement slabs and informed the police. The Tiruvanmiyur police registered a case and took up investigations.

Yesterday, railway police ADGP Shylendra Babu boarded the train at Chintadripet and travelled up to Velacheri. He got down at every station and inspected the train. He stopped at Velacheri where the cement slab was placed on the track and discussed safety measures that needed to be taken.

At this juncture, another cement block being found on the track this morning is raising suspicions of sabotage, according to reports.

Railway officials, railway police and Railway Protection Force personnel are conducting investigation in the area now.
