Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited in association with GREGO Recycling Pvt Ltd, a startup company, has come up with a unique idea of converting old plastic wastes into recyclable planter vases.

A press note said this is a boon to society in reducing air pollution and controlling the plastic waste which leads to global warming. A total of 400 planted vases were installed on the pillar of Koyambedu Metro Station parking area.

Over 1,250 plants have been planted in these vases.  This vertical garden initiative comes with a complete drip irrigation system which ensures minimum water for all plants thereby reducing wastage of water. These plants also absorb more carbon dioxide, thereby reducing air pollution and giving way to fresh air.

CMRL in collaboration with GREGO has further plans of installing vertical garden on more number of pillars in Metro Stations as an initiative towards Green India.
