Chennai: It is four months since actor Kamal Haasan launched his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). From touring districts to kickstarting membership drive to launching of an app to meeting national leaders, plenty is happening on his front.

At Kalaivanar Arangam here today, Kamal will release the anthem for MNM, penned by lyricist Snehan, and composed by Taj Noor. Cadres of the party from across the State are expected to attend the event where the actor-politician would deliver a special address.

The first public event to be addressed by Kamal after MNM was registered as a political party by the Election Commission of India, assumes significance. A few days ago, he had been to New Delhi to register his party. During his stay at the national capital, he called on AICC leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and reportedly discussed Tamilnadu politics.

Kamal, who had been to the swearing-in ceremony of H D Kumaraswamy as Karnataka Chief Minister recently, shared the dais with leaders of major Opposition parties of the country then.

According to office-bearers of the MNM, "Our leader is clear about his priorities. He is clear about what he needs to do and the tasks ahead of him. Even though we have no representation in the Tamilnadu Assembly, he has been raising questions in connection with demands for grants for every department."

The Whistle app of MNM has been serving its purpose as it acts as a bridge between people and officials. Kamal even visited Thoothukudi to meet the families of those killed during the anti-Sterlite protests.

"The feather in his cap was the all-party meeting convened by him on the Cauvery issue. He sees no one as a threat and invited leaders from all parties. We have our priorities and are working towards it."
