Chennai: Johnson Lifts has set up its first public service heavy duty escalator manufacturing facility at Oragadam in the city.

The company says that an investment of Rs 100 crore will be pumped into the new facility and is projected to clock a turnover of Rs 2,200 crore by 2019-2020.

"There is a big push from the government to provide services to the public and this includes elevators and escalators at railway platforms. Besides this, there is also a large requirement for outdoor escalators at foot over bridges.

"The announcement of Metro Rail projects across the country over the next 10 years will also see a huge leap in the demand for heavy duty escalators due to growth of public services. We are the complete suppliers of the Chennai metro and many more cities in India.

The potential for escalators required in India is more than 4000," said, Johnson lifts, chairman and managing director, John K John.

"We are yet to see GST’s benefits but as of now it is a good move for the nation and the industry as well," said John on GST's impact.
