ICF: Contractor Tata Projects told to assist kin of dead worker

Chennai: The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) administration had asked the HR manager of Tata Projects Ltd to provide all necessary assistance to the family of the deceased and also provide all medical assistance to the injured Neeraj Kumar in a mishap that took place at the construction site at LHB area near ICF furnishing division this morning.

Tata Projects Ltd (Hyderabad) is taking up construction of a production shed at Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) area and has employed 250 contract labourers, most of them migrants.

According to a press release from the ICF, Neeraj Kumar was injured this morning at 7 am when the walls of the water tank at the construction area suddenly collapsed with debris falling on the labourers. The water also gushed out in force, damaging the other walls. These collapsing on the workers.

Birmal Kumar who applied for inclusion as contract labourer but was not accommodated owing to non-production of age proof died on the spot.

Neeraj Kumar is getting treated for injuries on his hand and legs at a local government hospital after first-aid at ICF Hospital.

With a view to facilitate their convenient stay, ICF administration had instructed the contractor to provide them with basic amenities such as room, bathing facility. Since the water provided for them to take bath was inadequate, the labourers had requested the contractor to increase the water storage.
