Chennai: In a relief to AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, the Madras High Court today rejected a petition challenging his victory in RK Nagar by-election on the ground of having allegedly indulged in corrupt practices.

Justice G Jayachandran allowed an application filed by Dhinakaran to reject the election petition moved by M L Ravi of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi, who is one of the contestants in the by-election held in December  2017.

Ravi alleged that the by-poll was marred by corrupt practices and was not free and fair.

Denying the allegations, Dhinakaran submitted that the basis of the petition was 'fraudulently untenable, misconceived, misdirected and full of falsehood.'

The allegations were not substantiated with material evidence and the plea deserves to be dismissed, he said.

A Srivilliputhur court today dimissed the bail plea of assistant professor Nirmala Devi who was accused of luring girl students to sex trade.

This is the fifth bail plea of Nirmala, who was arrested after the 'sex racket' hit the headlines.
