Four train passengers crushed to death in Chennai

Chennai: Four passengers were reportedly crushed to death at St Thomas Mount while travelling by the EMU train this morning.

According to railway sources, there was electrical problem between Mambalam and Kodambakkam stations. So, local trains were not running for a while.

As the crowds swelled in the railway stations, the authorities decided to run fast locals as regular local trains that will stop at all stations.

When the train running from Beach to Thirumalpur was proceeding towards St Thomas Mount, those hanging on the footboard got crushed against the wall of the station.

Though reports are not confirmed, four passengers are said to have died in the accident. A few more were also injured in the crush, say railway sources.

Additional police commissioner Sarangan visited the accident spot and conducted inquiries.
