Chennai: Those who travel on the footboard on local trains will face fine or jail. Following the gruesome accident at St Thomas Mount yesterday morning, when four passengers on the footboard were crushed to death when they came between the train and the concrete fence, Railway Protection Force (RPF) commissioner Louis Amudhan has sent out this warning.

He has said the RPF personnel will monitor local trains more vigorously, and ask people not to hang out of the trains and travel on the fooboard.

Such people will be asked to get down from the train and taken to the local police station and cases registered against them.

The footboard travellers will be fined or even sent to jail, the commissioner warned.
