In the recently held interclub table tennis tournament conducted by Madras Gymkhana Club, Sharan won the open singles, open - doubles (partnering with his father C N Sridhar), apart from settling for silver in the team event. Sridhar also settled for silver in the veteran category. Seven clubs and 11 teams participated in the tournament.
Sharan, a XI standard student and house captain of Amrita Vidyalayam, Nesapakkam, is following in his fathers footsteps in giving priority to sports and also concentrating on academics.
He has participated and won prizes in chess (national and international events), table tennis and cricket. He has won accolades in many cultural activities, too.
Sridhar, a former cricketer and paddler, runs an IT infrastructure company. He is a mechanics and an analytics consultant for cricket players.
He played in the South Asian Veteran Table Tennis tournament held in Colombo last year and is preparing for the World Veteran Table Tennis tournament to be held in US next year. Both father and son practise table tennis at YMCA, Kodambakkam.
Asked about his sons future, Sridhar said,”Sharan is into chess, table tennis and cricket. In the long run, I think he will opt for chess.”
Stating that youngsters should go with full passion into what they are interested in, Sridhar said he was ready to guide them in sports if they approach him.
